Automatic Postponement Due Date for 2020 Federal Income Tax Returns

Federal income tax returns in the Form 1040 series (including Form 1040, Form 1040-SR, and Form 1040-NR) and Federal income tax payments in connection with these forms which were otherwise due on April 15, 2021 but were automatic postponed pursuant to Notice 2021-21 are due today. This includes the all schedules, forms, and returns that are filed as attachments to the Form 1040 series or are required to be filed by the due date of the Form 1040 series, including, for example, Form 3520, Form 5471, and Form 8621.
Taxpayers who need additional time to file their individual income tax returns may extend the due date to October 15 by applying for an automatic extension of time to file with a Form 4868 or making an extension payment electronically.
Taxpayers eligible automatic postponement of IRA contributions also have until today to make a contribution for 2020.
